S O F T B AL L The Softball season demonstrated the depth and skill of Grammar softballers when they won dual premierships in the senior competition; the Senior as outright, and the Opens, shared with Somerville House. Not since 1996 has this feat occurred. This Year also saw the competition move to the Redlands Softball Association fields at Ormiston. This the most Venue 15 sophisticated softball facility in Brisbane and all teams enjoyed the quality of the grounds, if not the distance from the CBD This Open season was always going to be tough, losing the strong Year Twelves from 2002. The first four fixtures saw the Opens take the diamond with determination and skill coming away with four wins. The next match against Somerville House was pivotal and Somerville House dominated in the batting box and on the pitching mound, winning 6-0. However, two Somerville draws meant Grammar achieved the outstanding result of three consecutive Open premierships in the aGSSSA competition

Kirby Short was the first Grammar girl in the 38 Years of aGSSSA softball to be a three times Open premiership member. The Senior A team experienced an outstanding season of high standards. With seven wins and a draw, the Senior as finished on top of the ladder Outstanding performers with the bat were Kirby Short and Laura Kidd (Open) batting .526 and .500 respectively and Amy Clarke and Catherine Me Iville isenior A1 with a batting average of .750 and .709. The batting was the highlight of the Grammar season with 15 of the 23 players batting over .400, a credit to both the girls and the coaching staff. The Year 8 softballers of 2002 continued the tradition of skill and enthusiasm by winning the Year 8A premiership and placing second in the 8B competition. Gemma Deal Captain
