SAILIN G The Sailing season of 2003 commenced in Term I with the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron's School Teams Racing Regatta. Brisbane Girls Grammar School entered six teams in the competition with the girls training and competing on alternate Sundays. The regatta was disturbed somewhat due to unfortunate weather. but all girls achieved improved skills and fond memories of the season. During the first week of the Easter holidays, the Senior A and Junior Teams trained in preparation for the Schools' State Team Racing Championships in the following week. Despite the fact that the weather was against us with choppy seas and winds blowing between 15 to 25 knots, the teams finished with flying colours the Junior Team in second place in their Division, while the Senior Team won the Girl's Division and tied for first in the bronze fleet overall. Grammar sailors had the opportunity to compete in the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron Winter Series. Grammar girls competed in a School Division that aimed to enhance performances of current and future sailors, particularly skippers. The Brisbane Girls Grammar Intra-School Teams Racing Regatta was held at RaYS on 18 and 25 May This was a wonderful opportunity for girls to compete in "friendlies" while improving their sailing skills The Sailing stall at Open Night was very special as many of the girls were able to see photographs of themselves projected onto the main sail of one of the Vagabond sailing boats, as well as those pinned on the display Many prospective students displayed a genuine interest in Grammar sailing With the help of Mr Mark Patterson and sailing parents, the school was able to purchase a new Yellow duck safety boat. it has been of great assistance to staff and girls, supporting the coaches and sailors on the water. All the girls have once again put in an enormous effort, resulting in another successful season Alexandra Dyer and Sophia Wardell Captains
