FACULTIES SPORT

R owlN G Ten schools compete in the Brisbane Schoolgirls' Rowing Association (BSRA) Competition, and this Year Grammar had another excellent season, maintaining its fourth place overall to match last year's result. The training season started in April for the squad of ninety, including one session at Lake Kurwongbah, and ergo trials. Scull trials were held at Wivenhoe to further refine the selection process and girls were placed in crews. in July, the Year 10,11,12 and Year 9 first and second division quads attended rowing camp on the Maroochy River. This was an excellent week, mixing intensive training with fun events to help the rowers get to know their fellow team members. The Year 85 and 9s also enjoyed a rowing camp at the BGS rowing shed A major highlight of the season was the formal naming and launch, by the Principal Mrs Bell, of our new eight shell, the appropriate Iy named, Ubla Ubla After five lead-up regattas, the Head of the River all too quickly arrived on 30 August This regatta always has a special atmosphere as it is the culmination of many months of training and, for the Year 12 girls, the end of their Grammar rowing experience. The results at the Head reflected the same positioning as last year. However, as Head Coach, Mr 01eg Shishkin observed, race times were faster than last Year,

indicating the strengthening competition in girls' rowing in the BSRA. This season, the Year 10 Seconds, Hayley MCMahon, Annie-Kate Vann, Sarah Hateley, Sarah Perry, Emily Buckner and coach, Tom Watson, received the Encouragement Award The talent of the girls involved in Rowing bodes well for a successful season next Year and we wish them "good balance and few crabs" Rachel Williams and Amelia Beer Captains
