H O CKEY The 2003 aGSSSA Hockey Season proved to be most successful for all teams. The Open, Senior B and Year 8 Blue team achieved well-deserved premierships in their respective divisions, with the Senior A and Year 9 teams finishing in second place The Open team quickly gained a reputation as a highly skilled, attacking team, who had only one goal scored against them for the whole season, a credit to the defensive players and to the goalie, Year 10 student, Marianne Seville. The O-I loss to St Margaret's in the first round proved a spur to future successes. This Year. for the first time, two Year 8 teams entered into the competition were indicating the depth of talent and skill amongst our junior players and providing a strong basis for future Grammar teams. The BWHA Club Hockey season in which Grammar fielded three teams, has proved Yet again to be a vital component of the development of Grammar hockey players. it not only allows existing players to develop and perfect their skills in preparation for the aGSSSA season, but it also oncoming provides the opportunity for new players to learn the sport and participate in another aspect of the Grammar community For the first time in the history of Grammar Hockey, a Jl team was fielded in the BWHA artificial turf competition. The Open and Senior A players involved gained obvious improvements in skill levels, fitness and teamwork. The Intermediate team comprised predominantly of Senior A and B players also enjoyed the opportunity to gain match fitness and improve their teamwork prior to commencement of the aGSSSA season. This team was unlucky to be defeated in the preliminary final, result'rig in fourth place for the season. The J5 team experienced considerable success this season with consistent improvement.
