CRICKET The 2002/2003 season of cricket saw Grammar fielding five teams, with the 1st XI and 4th xi winning Brisbane premierships in Divisions One and Three The 1st XI, captained by Lauren Harrison and Kirby Short, won all but one game throughout the season. The 1sts put an early season loss behind them to win the closely fought final against St Margaret's for the Division One premiership. They then went on to play the Brisbane final against Brisbane State High, winning convincing Iy and were presented with the Gary Bromiley Shield. The entire team is to be coinmended for the hard work and great team spirit that they displayed throughout the season and special mention must be made of Laura Kidd and Kirby Short who both batted and bowled consistently well, particularly in the finals The 2nd XI, captained by Captain of Cricket, Madelin Newman, played in the First Division for the first time. Composed mainly of seniors, some of whom were playing for the first time, and several talented Younger

students, the team showed great enthusiasm. Georgia Mitchell's endless enthusiasm and excellent wicketkeeping were recognised at the End of Season Cricket Dinner with the Encouragement Award The 3rd xi was the only Grammar team in the second division. They finished fourth, winning two of their matches and showed a marked improvement in all aspects of the game as the season progressed The 4th xi not only went through the entire season undefeated, but they also won the Third Division premiership after their opponents, Clayfield College, forfeited the final. Made up of mainly Younger students, and two enthusiastic seniors, the 5th xi played extremely well during the season, finishing in third place in the Third Division premiership. This was an outstanding effort, as many of the team members had never before played cricket. Madelin Newman Captain
