The D-Grade Artistic Gymnastics Team ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS

Rhythmic Gymnastics - Hoop Team RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS

The storm may have disrupted the beginniing of the school year, but little could be done to daunt the spirit of the schoo l gymnasts. We trained three mornings a week, and later evenings and weekends were added, until a total of 60 hours had been spent jumping, rolling and stretching. As the competition drew near, Mrs Sinden organised the lnterhouse Competition which proved a va luab le lead up to the major competition. I would like to thank the Integrated Studies girls for their help in the organisation of the event. Again this year, the gym T-shirts were a big success and I would like to thank the Year 12 girls who helped me, for without them, I would probably st ill be up to my elbows in blue ink! For the first time, the Artistic Gymnastics was held on two days. From lunch on Friday 24th, the Year 8, the D Grade and the A Grade competed. On Saturday the C Grade and the B Grade competed during the morning session. As in previous years, Grammar proved a hard team to beat. The results are as fo llows - A GRADE 1st 103.45 pts B 2nd 97.05 pts B2 7th 91.4 pts C 1st 100.6 pts C2 3rd 97.15pts D 1st 98.4 pts 02 4th 93.30 pts 8 3rd 93.10 pts 82 5th 90.8 pts The team owes their success to the dedication of their coaches, Mrs Sinden, Helen Wordsworth, Mark Andrew, and jeannette Cuthbert and to fel low team members. On the day of the compet iti on, the Grammar support, although small in number, was the loudest and added greatly to the enthusiasm of the competitors. Finally, I would like to thank Mrs Sinden very much, for her support and dedication to gymnastics, not just this year, but in her six years at Grammar and we wish her luck in her future ventures. I have enjoyed very much my year as Captain and wish next year's team the best of luck.

Brisbane Girls' Grammar has, in previous years, been very successful in Q.G.S.S.S.A. lnterschool Competition and 1985 was no exception . Under the guidance of our experienced and highly qualified coach, Mrs Magnusson, we trained three mornings a week for three months and later during lunch-hours as well. Weekend practices also became a regular event as the competition drew closer. Everyone worked very hard at these practices and must be commended for making the effort to attend all of the trainings. Our routines had been choreographed by Mrs Magnusson and everyone looked forward to the interschool competition, which was held at St Peter's on the 25th May. The hard work had been justified since Grammar made a clean sweep of the competition, winning all three apparat- us- Hoop 8.2 + 7.5 15.7 Ball 8.5 + 8.3 16.8 Ribbon 8.1 + 7.5 15.6 The first score indicates the compos iti on standard and Grammar's scores were well ahead of the other schools. The second score indicates execution which has improved greatly on last year's competition results. My thanks to all involved, especially Mrs Sinden and Mrs Magnusson, and Best of Luck in 1986!
