CRICKET The scorching heat burned down upon the field as the fast bowler began to pace up to the wicket, gaining speed. The ball flashed down the pitch, and was suddenly smashed into the outfield for four by Alan Border. But, hang on a minute! That isn't Alan Border! That person is wearing white culottes! And it's a girl! And she has a blue cap on! Yes folks, the ever-improving B.G.G.S. cricket team strikes again! The 1984-85 season was our best so far, and we had great fun at the same time. Our season started on October 6th, 1984, and finished on the 16th of March, 1985, and we played through the Christmas holidays (with a short break at Christmas). We played such teams as University, Valleys, Toombul, Easts, Wests (yes, they came from all directions!), Wanderers, and Raiders. We had some really exciting matches, (like the one-day against Raiders, where they scored 50 and we ended up 8 for 104) , and our final placings put us at sixth in a field of eight. The B.G.G.S. team has been playing for three seasons now, in B Grade of the Queensland Women's Cricket Association. Contrary to popular belief, we don't play "girls" cricket, with tennis balls and no gloves. Our cricket is the real thing, with cricket balls hard enough to break the eskies sitting off the field under the trees. We even have to cope with the weather problems Tony Greig talks about on his weather board (by the way, have you ever had to play cricket on a field which looks like a swamp, and a pitch which squeezes out water when you step on it?) . Many thanks for a great summer must go to Mr Warren, our never-failing, patient coach, Mr Bromiley, our school co- ordinator, the Litsters and Mr Meirs for their support, Mrs Harvey-Short for her support and the old girls who have continued to play in the team. join your school team. We may not win the Sheffield Shield, but we're getting there!

Although we were slightly out of form, we were able to commence our season successfully, and on a high note, by defeating Moreton Bay and St Aidan's. We were striving to win the premiership this year as we had done in 1981 , but unfortunately we were unable to fulfil our hopes. Th e A team was beaten in a relatively close match against State High . The Bgrade having defeated B.S.H.S. in a close match 1-0 lost their bid for the premiership when they were defeated by Somerville House. Though we played well and tried enthusiastically, we could only achieve a very respectable second placing in both grades. I think I can speak on behalf of the rest of the team, in saying that it was a thoroughly enjoyable season, despite losses, and I would like to give many thanks to Mrs Harvey- Short, Karen Anne Cole and Mr Cooke for coaching us, Mrs Cooke for scoring for the A grade and Anne Swain for B grade scoring.
I would like to finish with th-th-three ch-cheers for the team. (One day I' II get it right!)
Best of luck for the future.
