Felgote Drama Club

After five years we farewelled Mrs Edwards and welcomed Ms She rifleld from the Drama Department as our new co- ordinator. We also welcomed back old girl and Drama Club Captain of 2008 MISS Kathryn Talbot to join us as our coach The year kicked off with a bang as we endeavoured to give nearly sixty girls a role in our first production, Tales by Torchl^ght. We took inspiration from classic Grimm Fairy Tales and spent a few afternoons reading, researching and writing before reshaping the tales into our own modern theatrical interpretations. Our Semester 2 production was yet another change in tradition as we were lucky enough to have Kathryn Taibot write and direct, with five co- directors, a production entitled Under Pressure. This showcased all our girls in a story of four people who meet in a train station after experiencing "the worst day ever" The year has been full of change, fantastic performances, wonderful girls and lots of fun. Thank you so much to our coaches, but most of all, thank you to all of the girls who have been involved this year. Without you, we're just some weird seniors playing dress up and talking to each other too loudly

Moving Opera! Moving Opera, a unique In-school workshop programme came to the Gehrmann Theatre for a week in April and enabled students from both Girls Grammar and Brisbane Grammar to come together, sing and perform The programme involves a series of Music Theatre workshops with a team of five professional artists from Opera Queensland (Mr Sean Dennehy who was the director, a musical director and three opera singers) The visitors worked closely with the group of students from Years 9 to 12 with a range of music and drama backgrounds A spectacular final concert was performed on Friday 8 April in the Gehrmann Theatre and the students showed off just how the programme had unleashed their full vocal and performing potential. The week long programme not only worked on developing the students' vocal skills, but also explored other areas such as stagecraft, improvisation, characterisat ion and scene devising. One student, 111ria Myrteza (12E) said "As well as meeting girls and boys who share a passion for theatre, I learned through games and exercises some key skills that helped me as a performer. Moving Opera was both insightful and fun and if given the chance I would definitely participate again"
