Bmisbaue Girls' Grainm LE PQl\DIIER ENOH.'\NTE. (Tra nslation ) . There grows in my garden , Encircled around, a very good swimmer , and we all hope to see her in the team n ext yea !". \Viahing a ll our junior and senior candidates the best of l uck in their exams , and hoping we do well in ours. we say goodbye , for we shall probabl y not be in Nursery next year. - ·-: o :-- L m R.ARY XOTES. Once m ore the Committee wish·es its notes to begin with s ·ncere t hanks to Mrs . Munro for her con t inued generosi ty . The complete .series of the " Historians ' History of t he Wo r ld .' ' whi ch sh e h ad g iven us , has been much, used and appreciated . 1\'e would li ke also to thank the follo wing Old Girls for books which h ave been presen.ted to the Library : Miss Campbell-Brown and Mi ss Spurgin, ·for plays of J . M. Barrie, B. Mills, lVI. Noble , N. Silvester, R. Lan- yon , B. Alder, K. Star!;: , Margaret Doig, Molly Doig , lVI . Smith , H. Sharp, C. \Vitton , E. Jack , F . Symes , A. Saunders. H . Sout h, J. W afson, A. Pring. The School has maintained its interes t in the Library . except ·for a rather unaccountable slacl;:ening among the Upper Thirds d uring four t h term; but the Committee has been puzzled th r oughotl t -the year by the strange reluctance of the girls t o use t he s ugges- ti on bo6k . It is quite usual t o hear grumblings because such-and- s u ch a. book is not in the Library, but if writing its name in this book is suggested , the swift departure of the grumbling is generally t he only reply received. If the School would make more u s e of this b ook the· work of the ·Commi t tee in choosing new hooks would b~ gr eatly simplified . A great many new books are to be bought, and even then th~. ·Committee ' s banl\:ing account will -show .a pleasing credit bal an ce. Perhaps some day, in the not very distant future, we shall be a ble t o see our ideal of a library room which is also a readin g r oom '!'ealised . The old method of using the Vltb form drawer. for t he library cards has been done away with . V·le have now a box whi ch is of t h e correct size, and, as it has a lid , it is possibl e to keep the cards r eas onably clean . At Michaelmas, our secretary, Meg. Forster, left the sc ho ol and consequently, gave up her position on the Commit t ee. '"iVe we re sorry t o lose her, as she had carried out her duties welL W i t h the end of the year will come the breaking u p of nld as sociations , and. because of the going of Miss Lyons , the Committee w ill lose one of its most active members. Perhaps no one ont side t h e Comm it tee , has realised what a large amount of work sh e has d one for t he library and in the editin g of the Magazine . Even ·we, w!:10 are members of the Committee . know but imperfectly, bu t we do appreciate her a id. :May sh131 have the best of good for t une -ln her n ew positi'on. P. J. A far famous fruit-tree Where apples ~bound. A harvest so bounteous , To one and all free , With just one condition , Time-honoured must be ; '\Vhoever desiring Those apples to taste, Is welcome to climb This tree in all haste. But once, having mounted Must stay, till the last Of the rosy red apples Belong to the past In war-stricken ages , Death stood at my side, · When came the grim "Blues " My fate to decide. Sweet and soft I entreat Them, the apples to try, I know then full well , l\Ie , Death must pass by. Again hasteful he came, My soul to defend, With the apples red lure , Tempted him to ascend. Thus, merry I sing, For toothless he eats, ·wherever I be, In the old apple tree. RUTH MUNRO. IV D. ---------01--------- Exch.:mg('S. I pswich Girls ' Grammar SchooL St . Margaret' s School.
