JAPANESE

Year 8 Japanese was amazing. In the first term, we learnt about family members and revised how to count. By the end of the term, we had learned forty-six characters! Our test at the end of the term was an interview with our teachers on our family members. In Term II we learnt about locations and how to describe them and studied about days of the week and extra- curricular activities. In addition to this, at the end of the term, we participated in cultural activities such as Judo and Yukata wearing which was exciting and watched Japanese movies and bizarre advertisements. In Term IV we learned about Japanese schools and how to say simple day-to-day activities. HANNAH RUTTER (8W)

CHINESE

Chinese at Brisbane Girls Grammar has been a truly rewarding and unique course for me. From topics such as Confucianism to the Great Cultural Revolution in Chinese Extension, our topics are wide and varied. One of my most favourite experiences this year was meeting the Chinese exchange students from our sister school in Shanghai. We were able to improve our Chinese skills, create lasting friendships and understand more about their culture through interacting with them. Many classes throughout the year attended exciting excursions such as Year 12 Chinese lunch trips to New Shanghai, giving us the opportunity to immerse ourselves in Chinese culture. Term II ended thrillingly when students studying Chinese in Years 7 and 9 celebrated with traditional Chinese snacks and an impressive lion dance performance. This is my fourth and final year learning Chinese at school and I am so grateful for this learning experiences and the knowledge I’ve gained from this subject. Thank you to all the Chinese teachers who have provided ongoing support on our journey. FIONA QIU (12R)
