Mathematics

MATHS YEAR 7 Year 7 Maths has been jam-packed with new and exciting topics. We explored new and exciting topics such as algebra, geometry and our personal favourite, constructions! We have learned so much this year and are looking forward to expanding our knowledge in mathematics. The crossword puzzles below, created by 7B students, using one word they feel describes Year 7 Mathematics.

YEAR 7 MATHS EXPERIENCE

YEAR (7B)

MATHS YEAR 10 In Year 10 Maths we learnt about a variety of new topics, including standard deviation and surds; as well as expanding on ideas from Years 8 and 9 such as probability and geometry. A shared favourite of ours was the introduction of graphics calculators, as it was enjoyable to use the range of new functions. In addition, we had the opportunity to participate in multiple extra-curricular maths activities. We both attended Mathapatta in Term II, which was an exciting experience to further our maths skills beyond the classroom. We investigated topics of: trigonometrical functions; game theory; and cryptology. We also participated in the Da Vinci Decathlon, in which maths and code-breaking were two of the ten disciplines. Using knowledge from both classroom maths and Mathapatta, we achieved second place overall. We’re both excited to see what senior maths will teach us next year. RUBY MASEL (10G) AND KAREN SUNDAR (10W) MATHS YEAR 9 This year in Maths we have learnt many new concepts and problem solving strategies. In Terms I and II, we revised and broadened our knowledge of essential number skills and percentages, algebra, the Pythagoras theorem, measurement and probability, which we later applied to answer problems from a variety of contexts. Also, being in Year 9, we were given the opportunity to participate in Mathapatta. In Term III, we learnt about trigonometry, co-ordinate geometry and simultaneous equations, which we then had to apply to a math assignment. This year I have really enjoyed to learn about trigonometry as it was very interesting, and I liked learning how to use the new functions on the calculator, which made solving unknown right angle triangle side lengths and angles much easier. CATHERINE LEE (9W) MATHS YEAR 8 In Year 8 maths, I was challenged to broaden my way of thinking regarding difficult problems. Throughout the year we have experienced a wide range of topics from linear equations to the surface area of prisms. We also covered the topics of measurement and geometry, using formulas to solve problems involving circumference and area, angles, congruency and index laws. Overall, Year 8 maths was an enjoyable experience. THILINI WIJESURIYA (8G)
