2017 School Magazine

BOOKS2DEVOUR On Monday 22 May, the Libellum Society hosted the annual BOOKS2DEVOUR competition, but with a slight twist for 2017 with the inaugural ‘Cupcake Creations’ edition of the event. Competitors were required to bake a display of book-themed cupcakes for an exhibit in the RLC where they were admired and judged. In addition, half of the cupcakes were sold to raise money for Libellum’s charity, the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, and over the course of the day we raised an impressive $453. The overall prize was awarded to Grace Collins (7E), Georgie Conomos (7W) and Rosie Collins (7E) for their Possum Magic cupcakes, with the People’s Choice award going to Olivia O’Brien (8R) for Alice in Wonderland . It is safe to say the incredible number of entries and the impressive intricacy and detail in the creations amazed the School community. On behalf of all of Libellum, we would like to thank to all of the wonderful people who made this event possible. KRISTIE STOKE (11B) AND REBECCA HALEY (11M)

STUDENT ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERSHIP NETWORK

We had the privilege to this year be part of Student Environmental Leadership Network (SELN), a programme delivered by Brisbane City Council that gives students from schools around Brisbane an avenue to run a programme aimed at achieving environmental sustainability. Throughout the year we have participated in many SELN meetings, preparing us for overcoming obstacles while teaching us valuable techniques to help us to connect our peers and supporting teachers to achieve our goals. Our project this year was initially to introduce solar panels to the school. After being told that this will be adopted into newer buildings, we decided to change projects to introducing native bees into the School’s Rangakarra Recreational and Environmental Education Centre at Fig Tree Pocket. While we are still in the developing stages of this project, we will be continuing to work hard to ensure the success of the project. Mrs Woodford, our supporting teacher, helped and continually supported us throughout this project and our personal and environmental successes would not have been achieved without her!
