2017 School Magazine
BLUE DAYS Like every year, the multiple Blue Days throughout the year played an integral role in the reinforcement of the Girls Grammar bond. The themes this year contributed to the overarching motto of 2017, ‘Out of the Blue’. A new initiative pushed by the Student Council was the selling of limited edition badges created by our own extremely talented Year 12 art students. The badges were a hit, and soon became a much sought after collector’s item among the girls. The first theme of the year was Under the Sea, where we banded together and celebrated the swimming girls competing in QGSSSA. It was heart-warming to see the Year 12s including the Year 7s on that day, showing them one of the most important Girls Grammar traditions. Next up was ’Inter-Grammactic’. Decorating for this theme included silver stars and copious amounts of glitter glue on every visible surface.
Term III threw us back to the 1990s, when double denim was acceptable. Whether it was to celebrate rowing and winter fixtures or to get the Year 12s pumped for QCS, the entire school donned denim and royal blue to show its support. Overall, every Blue Day this year was different to the others, emphasising the rich diversity and culture that our School nurtures. I think all girls will agree that the spirit and support shown on the days helped the cross-country girls, swimmers, rowers, gymnasts and the plethora of other sporting girls to achieve their best on their respective competition days and represent Brisbane Girls Grammar School with pride.
