TOUCH FOOTBALL
This year’s Touch season has been a very memorable one. A season filled with outstanding team efforts, individual brilliance, great wins, close losses and plenty of rain. As captains, we are immensely proud of each and every squad member who attended challenging trainings on Thursday afternoons at Rangakarra and represented the school proudly in royal blue each Friday with great teamwork, sportsmanship, skill and spirit. The Touch season kicked off late Term IV in 2016 with trials for the Year 8 to 12s, with the eager Year 7s trialing in Week 2 of Term I 2017. The squad consisted of 189 girls — one of the largest sports in the School. Due to so many enthusiastic year 7s, Brisbane Girls Grammar School had four teams in that age group alone. A massive congratulations must go to the 7Bii team who won the premiership for their division. Particular mention must also go to the Metropolitan North representatives, Rachel Trimboli (10E), Isabella Elcock (10H), Malorie Jackson (11L) and Laura Field (11E). We would like to thank all of the people involved in the 2017 Touch season, who made sure the season ran as smoothly. A huge thank you must go to our Co-ordinator, Mr McGarry, for his tireless efforts in keeping the entire squad organised and prepared for each game. As well as this, we would like to thank Ms McCorley for her assistance throughout the season. Finally, we would like to thank the coaches for helping each individual girl improve their skills and are the reason for each team’s success. As Year 12 students, we are also saddened knowing we have played our last game of Touch in the royal blue for Brisbane Girls Grammar School. Over the past five years we have learned valuable lessons and created memories that we will cherish for many years to come. As captains, we could not have been more grateful to lead such an amazing group of girls in 2017. We are so thankful to have the opportunity to lead a sport that we love and feel so passionate about. We would like to thank every single Touch girl that made the season so special for our final year. CARA WHITING (11E) AND DOMINIQUE HALE (11H) CAPTAINS
Tennis at Girls Grammar provides players with the opportunity to not only improve their tennis skills but also become part of a supportive team environment. Although tennis has always been regarded as an individual sport, at Girls Grammar each individual player helps form the divisional teams and our overall Girls Grammar Tennis team. Every player soon recognises that they are playing for more than their own individual success and that their exceptional achievements are a result of every team member giving it their all on and off the court. The team spirit and atmosphere felt around the courts this season as players stayed after their matches to cheer on their teammates is something we will forever appreciate and remember.
This year, strength and conditioning sessions were introduced in an attempt to challenge the girls to push their boundaries and reach their full potential. The countless mornings of strenuous training were not only challenging, but brought each team closer together as we pushed harder as a unit. Being the inaugural year of strength and conditioning, we were proud of how each girl embraced the extra early morning each week. Having both been a part of Girls Grammar Tennis since Year 8, it was an absolute honour to serve as captains of a sport we are both so passionate about. It was a pleasure leading such a talented group of girls and we hope they are as proud as we are of their exceptional achievements. A very special thanks must be extended to our Co-ordinator, Ms McCorley, without whom the season would not have been so smooth-running nor successful. We wish the very best of luck to the girls next season. All Blue, All In. MADISON SATYASIV (12M) AND STARR LEE (12W) CAPTAINS
