GRAMMAR DANCE The Grammar Dance programme for 2017 began by welcoming new tutor and head choreographer, Sarah Spina. Sarah, along with five groups of eager girls ranging in age and dance ability, began working hard at their weekly morning rehearsals. This year, one of the groups was lucky enough to be led by 2017 dance captains and Year 12 students Emma Campbell (12H) and Emily Anderson (12R). The first two terms consisted of hard work by the Grammar Dance girls as they developed their skills, perfected their technique and prepared their pieces for upcoming performance. Throughout the year, the girls developed dance and performance skills across jazz, lyrical and contemporary choreography, learning new moves as well as developing performance qualities in their group pieces. Girls participated in a preparatory lunch- time showcase in Term III where dancers were able to display their talents and hard work in front of their peers. The annual end of year dance performance was held on 17 October and showcased the girls’ hard work across the entirety of the year; the performance giving every girl, from first time performer to even the programme’s most experienced dancers, an opportunity to display their hard work and dedication to their family and friends. All dancers this year have shown great commitment and enthusiasm towards the Grammar Dance programme and with the leadership of Sarah, Emma and Emily, the year as a whole has been extremely enjoyable. LIBELLUM The year was an eventful one — as usual — for the Libellum Society. We started the year off with a colourful ‘sign-on’ event under the fig tree outside the Research Learning Centre where our current and new members shared their favourite books and posted what fictional worlds they wished they could live in imagining, ‘I wish it was real.’ This year the Libellum designers combined mindfulness colouring with reading by creating bookmarks with designs on one side for students to colour. We also designed bookmarks with our recommended reading lists for events such as International Women’s Day, Valentine’s Day and Diversity Day. The bookmark theme continued at Open Day to the delight of our young visitors, where we hosted a bookmark-making stall along with colouring-in of Harry Potter designs.

Aiming to share the love of stories with the school, Libellum hosted several literary events throughout the year. Our annual Books2Devour competition held in May was a massive hit yet again with an incredible number of entries of awesome quality, and this year we introduced a new theme: ‘cupcake creations.’ The bakers generously donated half of their cupcakes for a stall, where we raised funds for our charity. The marvellous Readers Cup girls — Scarlett McLellan (7H), Chalotte Picker (8M), Matilda Bennett (8M), Ciel Bennett (8M) and Wiji Rahim (8G) — did a fantastic job this year in the Brisbane North competition in June, placing fifth out of twenty-two schools. In August, the School joined us to celebrate twenty years of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series with a trivia competition open to all grades. We had an impressive turnout of girls, some of whom dressed up as Harry Potter characters for the event. Our Year 7 Libellum members were the trolley witches and judges on the day, helping us host one of the most successful events of the year. In Term IV, we held the Marrapatta 30 Short Story competition to celebrate thirty years since the opening of Marrapatta and placed some of the stories in the time capsule. Finally, Libellum hosted the ‘Three Broomsticks Pub’ on Harry Potter Day selling our famous butterbeer. Throughout the year, the Libellum Society raised more than $600 for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. Thank you to Ms Christopherson and the enthusiastic Libellum girls.
