Duke of Edinburgh is an international youth development program designed to challenge young people between the ages of 13 and 25. It provides an opportunity to experience a sense of personal achievement, while having fun and gaining valuable life skills with your friends. The award is separated into three different award levels: bronze; silver; and gold. Each level requires four components to be completed: physical recreation; skill; service; and an adventurous journey. Each section develops valuable skills including adaptability, leadership, and teamwork. This year at Brisbane Girls Grammar School the first two Duke of Edinburgh adventurous journey expeditions were held at Marrapatta and Girraween National Park on the first weekend of the Term I holidays. The spectacular and popular Girraween National Park outside Stanthorpe was an incredible location with its huge granite boulders towering above dramatic landscapes and unique wildlife. The students had a fantastic three days exploring Bald Rock Creek, visiting Granite Arch, climbing The Pyramid for great views over the park and much more.
