THE DRAMA STUDIO

Working with these masks was not only enjoyable, but also challenged us to expand our physical and vocal expression. During the second semester we worked on Blue Italian by Katie Pollock, a site-specific production that used the Cherrell Hirst Creative Learning Centre as our stage. Throughout the rehearsal phase we all worked in ensemble groups and each group was responsible for a scene in the play. Together, we workshopped the scenes to stage the production under the direction of Mrs Miller. The Drama Studio has been very enjoyable, giving all of us opportunities to express ourselves in a safe environment while developing and refining our skills in performance. TAMRAH NICHOLAS (9G)

The Drama Studio is a co-curricular program that aims to develop and improve the performance skills of students and offers an extension to the curriculum, providing opportunities to engage with guest artists and work with like-minded students. Throughout 2017, more than forty students participated in The Drama Studio. During the first term we focused on ensemble work, characterisation and improvisation. Engaging in a series of drama exercises and challenging games helped us to develop essential ensemble skills, further enabling us to develop our creativity and improvisation skills. In the second term, we were very lucky to be given the opportunity to work with an amazing guest artist, Lauren O’Rourke, from Homunculus Theatre. She introduced us to mask work and through highly physical workshops, we were given the opportunity to experiment with a range of masks including Commedia, Basel and Sean masks.

ECOMAN ENTERPRISE EDUCATION PROGRAMME

The simulation required us to split into four groups with each person taking on a role in the company, such as CEO, Marketing Director, Human Resources Manager, Production Manager and Finance Manager. Each team ran their company for four years, surviving a recession, negotiations with unions and many other challenges while passionately competing with the other teams for the highest market share at the end of the ‘four years’. At the beginning of the programme the vast majority of us had no idea what an EBIDTA, cost-benefit report or a market share was, but by then end of the three days we had all become much more financially literate and every group had managed to triple the profits of the original company. It was incredibly rewarding to see the steady growth of company sales and improvement in the quality of our products from the inherited, dreadful company. This programme definitely opened our eyes up to many future careers. We all thoroughly enjoyed the programme, from learning about company management to negotiating severance packages. ALICIA HARASTY (11M)

A group of twenty students from Brisbane Grammar School and Brisbane Girls Grammar Schools participated in the ECOMAN Enterprise Education Programme which took place from 17 to 19 July 2017. Corrs Chambers Westgate hosted this programme at Waterfront Place. The main goal of the experience was to provide students with an understanding of what it takes to lead a company and operate in the business world.
