Turning the page: A retrospective journey through the Beanland Memorial Library Beanland Memorial Library
Libellum’s annual Books2Devour, the highly acclaimed book themed cake-decorating competition, is always a magical exhibit displayed on Level 1 of the RLC. The exceptional library staff—Ms Rachael Christopherson, Ms Rachel Patty, Ms Anne Horswell, Ms Rosalie Stafford, Ms Amanda McAuliffe, Ms Catriona Banks, and Ms Tilly Askey— can be found throughout the library, setting up colourful themed displays, recommending and purchasing new books, maintaining the Archives, and assisting with enquiries. They work tirelessly to ensure that we always have everything we need for our studies, assignments, and of course, reading. ‘My favourite thing about the library is definitely the wide variety of books, especially the impressive Agatha Christie collection.’ —Elsie Butler (12B) ‘For me, my most memorable experience in the library was winning 1st place in the Books2Devour competition in Year 7.’ —Eva Warmington (12B) ‘I will always treasure, remember, and miss the times when I would read a book a day, simply returning to the library and pulling down another great read.’—Freya Pearn (12H) Elsie Butler (12B), Eva Warmington (12B) and Freya Pearn (12H)
When seeking a serene study environment, a comfortable spot to unwind, or a new engrossing read, the Beanland Memorial Library has always been a favourite place to go. Spanning five levels, the library overflows with fantastical spiraling staircases, walls of enthralling books, cozy study nooks—including the highly coveted Rapunzel balcony—and beautiful classrooms. Home to a continually expanding database collection, the library is a vital resource for all research tasks and essays. The library’s higher levels offer breathtaking views of the fig tree, fostering a natural environment that enhances students’ wellbeing. This year, the library staff have added an extensive game collection featuring puzzles, UNO, Monopoly, and Scrabble for when we just want to unwind. From early mornings to late afternoons—including the invaluable evening study programs—the library’s extended hours continue to allow students to study and relax in a peaceful atmosphere. It’s even open on the school holidays, providing us with the chance to borrow as many beach-reads as we like! For the last six years, we have been members of the Libellum Society—the School’s very own club for keen readers—which features the black owl ‘Keeper of Books’ mascot and convenes weekly in the library. We have loved being part of a club that encourages students to engage with inspiring and thought provoking literature across various genres and forms.
