On Saturday 18 May 2024, Brisbane Girls Grammar School Cross Country team competed in the QGSSSA Cross Country Championships. As the sun rose over John Paul College, our 130 official and non-official runners geared up for one of the most exciting QGSSSA championships to date. As hundreds of supporters lined the course, everyone dug deep and showed true Girls Grammar spirit. Our results showed, with BGGS placing an incredible second place overall.

There were many highlights of the season, including: our Cross Country camp at Alexandra Headland; six lead up meets; the International Women’s Day fun run; and our weekly toastie breakfasts. This season would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of our coordinator, Mrs Kate McCarthy, our head coach, Mr Chris Gale, as well as all of our other incredible coaches.

Fencing

This year, 14 teams from BGGS competed in the Queensland Schools’ Team Fencing Competition, against teams from All Hallows, Brisbane Grammar School, Brisbane State High School, and Composite. The girls demonstrated fantastic commitment and hard work which was reflected in the outstanding results, with four individual teams placing first, two teams placing second, three teams placing third, and the BGGS Fencing team securing third place, overall. We are thrilled with these results and by the fighting spirit our Fencing girls displayed throughout the season. A special congratulations must also go to the fencers who competed in State and National competitions. Many of the girls placed on the podium and we are so proud of their achievements. As Captains, our goals this year were to increase participation in Fencing and generate greater support for our teams.
