2023 School Magazine
MINDFUL CRAFT CLUB The Mindful Craft Club has been an opportunity on Monday lunchtime for students of any age to just check out of the rush of school and spend 40 minutes doing a craft of their choice. Whether it’s crochet, knitting, or even just relaxing, the girls who attended had many craft and material options to choose from. There was no limit to the creativity shown, with items such as bags, granny squares and blankets made, all while the students prepared for the week ahead. This club is always looking to welcome new people, including those who have no experience in crafting. We’ve really enjoyed the mindful break and the opportunity to learn something new and different. OPEN MIC CLUB
Open Mic is a club that gives students the opportunity to polish their performing skills, try new repertoire, and have fun with their friends, and this year was not short of performances. Whether the theme of the session was ‘Homage To Harry’ (to celebrate Harry Styles’ spectacular Australian leg of Love On Tour ), or ‘Love and Heartbreak,’ all of the performers truly rose to the occasion and presented incredible performances. This year, we truly created a safe and encouraging environment full of like-minded people, and I know that all of the performers enjoyed the opportunity to showcase renditions of their favourite songs to fit each show’s theme. As much as I loved performing my own versions of songs such as All Along by Louis Tomlinson, or Love To Hate Me by BLACKPINK, I also enjoyed watching my friends perform. Some of my personal favourites included Eve McGrath’s (9E) intricately written original pieces, Kira Green’s (8E) moving rendition of Rise Up by Andra Day, Chloe Leong’s (8O) cover of In Case You Don’t Live Forever by Ben Platt, or the incredible Vivian Lee (12O) and her performance of A Million Dreams from The Greatest Showman . I know all the participating girls have enjoyed not just the opportunity to grow via performing each fortnight, but the extra opportunities given to us as a result of our hard work, such as busking and performing at Open Day. Thank you so much to Mr McGrath for organising these Open Mics for us every two weeks, and supporting us all on our musical journeys. Ruby Hill (8O) Performer
