TENNIS
2023 was another highly successful season for Tennis, with eight teams competing and training hard each week. Once again, our players showed team spirit, determination, and drive. With early morning training sessions, weekly round robins, and fantastic morning teas during our home games, our BGGS Tennis players proved their dedication and passion for their sport. Our main goal this year was to make sure everyone felt welcomed and involved. Although there were a few tough matches and knockdowns, our teams pulled through valiantly with optimism and smiling faces, always staying back to support their teammates with words of encouragement. As a result, a huge congratulations must go out to everyone who participated. We could not be prouder. Particular congratulations must go to the Senior A team who took home the pennant this year. The Open team fought hard to place second against some incredibly
tough opposition. Overall, all teams placed in the top three of their respective age groups—a wonderful achievement. We would like to thank all parents and supporters who drove their daughters to and from matches, watching our games, and helping with the morning tea each week. We are extremely grateful for your help and could not have done it without you. A special thanks must also go out to Ms Martel who did a fantastic job at coordinating and organising the students and our matches. Having both played Tennis for BGGS since Year 7, it has been an absolute honour and pleasure to be captains of such a talented, friendly and spirited group of girls. Tennis has certainly been a great way to top off our last year at Brisbane Girls Grammar
School, and it will always hold a place in our hearts. Mathilde Wernham (12G) and Emily Ryan (12E) Tennis Captains
TOUCH FOOTBALL
This season, all teams achieved great results, surpassing expectations and demonstrating exceptional skills on the field. We would like to congratulate the Senior B and 8B teams for winning the premiership and remaining undefeated this year. Furthermore, well done to the 8B team for scoring the most tries throughout the competition. A special thank you goes to our coordinator, Mrs Nisbett, whose tireless efforts behind the scenes ensured the season ran seamlessly. Mrs Nisbett’s exceptional organisational skills and unwavering support played a crucial role in our success, and we are deeply grateful for her dedication and commitment. One of our most rewarding aspects of the season was witnessing the growth and development of teamwork among our Touch players. From our famous Easter egg hunt to the Touch team relay, or the simple act of supporting another team from the sideline every Friday night, this season was definitely one to be proud of. Violet Miall (12E) and Grace Scammells (12E) Touch Captains
The 2023 Touch Football season was a great success, characterised by several accomplishments and challenges. As captains, our main goals were to score a total of 275 tries and to ensure everyone enjoyed playing Touch. To begin the season, the Open squad was invited to a three-day camp at the Gold Coast Performance Centre. The camp was beneficial to all players, fostering spirit and determination in preparation for the upcoming games. Additionally, it was fantastic to return to Rangakarra following the devastating floods of last year.
