VOLLEYBALL
This year has been a big one for BGGS Volleyball, full of wins, losses, and learning experiences. But we couldn’t be happier with the outcome of the 2023 Volleyball season! A lot can be said about this year's season, but one word sums it up perfectly: inspiring. From Years 7 to 12, all teams put their best foot forward by training hard, playing hard, and staying after games to support their fellow BGGS Volleyball teammates. The display of talent across junior years leaves us, as captains, optimistic about the future of BGGS Volleyball, and we feel assured that the sport is in good hands.
It has been an incredible final season for our senior players, with many leaving inspired to continue the sport into the future. With numerous challenging games across Open and Senior teams throughout the season, we are so proud you all came together to make the games as fun and exciting as they were. We hope you have all enjoyed your last season, as we surely have! To the younger girls, we can’t wait to see how you all grow and develop your skills. While you may not win every game, there’s a lot to be said about the growth that can come from a loss. Volleyball is an incredible team sport that can be played and enjoyed by all, and we hope this season has left you inspired to keep playing Volleyball next year. A special thank you must go to our incredible coordinator, Ms Jones, who has done a seamless job of managing the sport and all its challenges throughout the year. Without you, this wouldn't be possible! Olivia Mitchell (12H) and Zaine Mackellar (12W) Volleyball Captains
WATER POLO
With 278 students participating in the 2022/2023 Water Polo season, there is no doubt that Water Polo is one of the most popular sports at BGGS. Ranging from U12s to U18s, being part of this expansive and passionate community is truly remarkable. One of our main goals for this season was for our Water Polo community to ‘Fuel the Fire’ and ignite the existing enthusiasm, strength, and unity within it. This year gave us the perfect opportunity to do just so, as we commemorated the 50th anniversary of BGGS Water Polo. This milestone was marked by the Blue Round at Musgrave Pool. With back-to-back BGGS games, the stands were decked out in blue, and with a bake sale and sausage sizzle organised by the Water Polo Support Group, it was a tremendous day.
As for finals, this year the BWPI competition made the introduction of quarter-finals, in which we had 20 teams compete. Following this round, 11 teams progressed to the semi-finals. Among these, four teams—U17 Div 3 White, U15 Div 4 Blue, U14 Div 2 White, and U12 White—emerged triumphant in the grand finals and won gold. Additionally, once again, BGGS Water Polo was involved in Queensland State Titles, with seven teams competing. A special mention must go to the U12s
and U18s who came home with silver and bronze respectively. Thank you to our coordinator, Ms Rippon, without whom the Water Polo program could not function. Her dedication ensures each player's readiness, motivation, and backing. As captains, we are proud of what the Water Polo program has achieved this year and are excited to see it grow even further in the future. Ella Coltzau (12R) and Eden Douglas (12E) Water Polo Captains
