2023 School Magazine
HOCKEY Hockey is an amazing sport that requires teamwork, a high level of dexterity, and a unique skill set. The talent that was displayed in each of our teams this year, as well as the growth and development of our players new to the game in our junior divisions, has truly stimulated a sense of pride in the community. The comradery developed between players from all teams and their coaches throughout the season meant that every Wednesday training and game days were full of fun and memorable experiences. In the 2023 season, we were extremely privileged to offer four teams to the QGSSSA competition with great success throughout. Our Senior A team was able to bring home the premiership, remaining undefeated for the season, which is an outstanding achievement.
This year fostered many new beginnings for BGGS Hockey, including the re introduction of home-game morning teas at Rangakarra, which gave players, parents, and coaches the opportunity to converse and fuel up following some of our most challenging rounds. Additionally, Hockey partook in Blue Round, encouraging players and friends to watch the Round 9 fixtures. The success of the BBQ breakfast would not have been possible without the help of our lovely P&F Association. We owe the exceptional outcomes of our season to our coordinator, Ms Mair, and our Sports Administration Officer and Head Coach, Ms Taylor. Congratulations to all players for their hard work and determination in 2023. We couldn’t have asked for a better group of girls to captain and share our final year of BGGS Hockey with. NETBALL
The 2023 Netball season was a huge success, and it was a great way to end our final year of playing Netball for BGGS. With the help of our coordinators, Ms Rees and Ms Nicholson, we were able to increase the spirit and support at our games across the season and we believe this had a great impact on all, achieving amazing results across our teams.
One of our initiatives this season was to implement a ‘Spirit Award’ for each home round. One player from each team was awarded this title for showing the most support, commitment and enthusiasm at training and games of that week. This ended up being a great way to incentivise players to uphold the spirit of a BGGS student and be the best version of themselves for their team. We are so proud of the progress we have seen this year, both on and off the court, within our team and the program as a whole and we are excited to see Netball at BGGS continue to thrive in 2024. Mathilda Chapman (12R) and Chloe Martin (12W) Netball Captains
