BADMINTON

2023 was another successful year of Badminton as we celebrated the 25th anniversary of it being part of QGSSSA. Badminton is an inclusive sport that welcomes players of all levels, and encourages girls to demonstrate and hone both sportsmanship and teamwork. Whilst being a fairly new sport to QGSSA, Badminton has been one of the fastest growing sports, with over 200 girls trialling and 138 girls being selected this year. This year, team trials ran from Week 8 to Week 10 of Term 2, with a social session in Week 6 for girls in all year levels to participate. After teams were selected, training commenced in Week 1, Term 3, with two hours of training weekly and additional training held closer to the competition for the senior teams.

to 7A and 7B who placed first, and 7C who placed second, despite being in their first year of Badminton. Without the help of our coordinator, Miss Vecchio, and our coaches’ ongoing support, dedication and guidance, this season would not have been as successful. We are thankful to have the opportunity to be the School Badminton Captains for 2023 and hope to see the School’s passion for Badminton continue into the future. The girls were able to demonstrate their hard work at Open Day, where Year 7 and 12 students had the opportunity to verse in friendly competition at the Badminton demonstration. With competitions held in Week 1 and Week 2 of Term 4, all teams put on a remarkable performance with the Open team defending their title for the third consecutive year. Senior A, B and D also won their respective divisions, and Senior C, 10A, 10B and 10B placed in the top three. The 9A, 9B and 8C teams came fourth. Special shoutout must go

BASKETBALL

The 2023 Basketball season was about creating a positive atmosphere, with a focus on teamwork, support and having fun. To launch the season, a basketball breakfast was held with girls participating in entertaining team-building activities. Brisbane Girls Grammar School was entered into the QGSSSA competition and produced some incredible results, with five of our 11 teams placing in the top three of their respective divisions. A special mention must go to our triumphant Year 7s, with the 7A team placing second and the 7B team taking out the premiership. This year we had our most supporters yet, with several students in attendance for our ‘True Blue’ round, cheering on the basketballers.

Thank you to Ms Penberthy; without your efforts the Basketball season wouldn’t have been so amazing! We are grateful for all your hard work, organisation, and devotion to the sport. Thank you to all the coaches for supporting us both on and off the court and thank you to the girls for your dedication, positive attitude, and for making our last year of Basketball unforgettable. We are grateful to have led an incredible community and wish the 2024 basketballers all the best for future seasons. We are sure you will do great!
