ATHLETICS

The 2023 Athletics season was an absolute success, filled with a contagious team spirit and a cascade of personal bests that lit up the track and field. The tireless effort and unwavering commitment shown by our Girls Grammar team throughout the season was inspiring. Whether it was during training sessions or the six meets leading up to QGSSSA, they left an indelible mark. When QGSSSA finally arrived, we witnessed the display of dedication, drive, and sheer persistence from our incredible Grammar girls. These young athletes gave their all, and the results

show how impressive their efforts were. Special mention must go to Jemima Morton (12M), who came first in U16 1500 m and 400 m, Carissa Graham (9W), who came first in U15 400 m, and Amaka Ekeocha (12W), who came first in the U17 100 m Hurdles. At the end of the day, Girls Grammar finished a creditable sixth in the overall aggregate to match our 2022 performance. The under-13, 15, and 16s were our strongest performers each finishing third in their age groups. This incredible success could not have been achieved without the School’s wonderful team of coaches led by our Head Coach, Mr Pearce. We are grateful for the wisdom, expertise, and experience that our coaches have provided to our Athletics team. Another big thanks must go to our Athletics Coordinator, Mrs Kingan; her dedication, organisation, and guidance made this season truly amazing! The support among our Girls Grammar community, parents, coaches, and supporters fuelled the fire in these extraordinary athletes. As we reflect on this unforgettable season, let it serve as a reminder that with passion, resilience, and a shared sense of purpose, there's no limit to what we can achieve. AUSTRALIAN FOOTBALL

are humbled to have been a part of this milestone journey. To top off this season, the Opens team placed equal premiers at the top of the ladder, however, the highlight of our season was indisputably watching the progression of the girls’ skills and their passion for the game flourish. With the Junior season in Term 4, we are excited to see the legacy of comradeship in Australian Football at BGGS continue to manifest and thrive in our younger players, and for many years to come. Claudia Dargie (12B) and Coco Garton (12B) Australian Football Captains

This year, Australian Football etched its place in QGSSSA history with its remarkable debut in the competition, heralding a new era for sport at BGGS. Australian Football, at its core, is a sport that embodies skill, courage, and grit—but its essence undeniably lies in its camaraderie between teammates. The unparalleled charm of this thrilling sport that integrates athleticism, physicality, and strategy, attracted many enthusiastic players, from girls who had competed at a high level to those who had never watched a game of Australian rules football before.

The coaches embraced the challenge of uniting individuals from a diverse range of skill levels into a team. Our coordinator, Mr Beattie, and our coaches curated a supportive and exciting environment, and we are immensely grateful for their support in helping us build the foundation upon which the sport will continue to thrive into the future. We extend our gratitude to Ms Gooden, whose organisational expertise was paramount to our success. We have been honoured to represent Girls Grammar as your Australian Football Captains this season and
