WORLD SCHOLAR'S CUP

Girls Grammar entered five teams of scholars in the Brisbane round of the World Scholar’s Cup competition and achieved outstanding results. The World Scholar’s Cup is an international academic competition that focuses on bringing together students from around the world to engage in various challenging and collaborative academic activities, including Debating, Writing, and various multiple-choice competitions. After competing in the regional Brisbane round, successful teams progress to the Global Round, held at the Gold Coast in the second week of the September school holidays. Winners from that round then competed in the Tournament of Scholars at Yale University in November.

This year, BGGS entered the competition for the first time, with five teams of three students in Years 7 to 9. All BGGS teams qualified for the Global Round of the competition and, in total, brought home 10 trophies—including first, second, and third placed teams, and first, second, and third-placed Champion Scholar. Many students intend to compete in the Global Round later this year. One of the unique aspects of the World Scholar’s Cup is its emphasis on fostering interdisciplinary learning, global collaboration, and intellectual exploration beyond the traditional classroom setting. The competition aims to create an environment where students can learn from each other’s cultures and perspectives while developing a passion for learning and

critical thinking. Ms Karen Abell Learning Support Teacher
