UNITED NATIONS CLUB

Throughout the year, the United Nations Club has committed to actively engaging with a variety of international affairs through educational and practical applications, such as group meetings and mock United Nations Summits from multiple hosts. The year started with a strong focus on learning about the Turkiye-Syria earthquake crisis, allowing members to gain an understanding of the practical harms faced by natural disasters and the international efforts taken to combat it, culminating with students presenting educational addresses within House assemblies.

Following this, our group was invited to attend Bond University’s High School Model UN and The Southport School’s Model UN Summit where we got to represent a variety of nations on pressing global matters including hunger, refugee, and health crises along with oppressive regimes. Whilst being able to actively engage in these matters, students were given the opportunity to work with a range of peers across Brisbane and the Gold Coast to widen their knowledge and understanding of our nearby and international community. The UNs were both incredibly successful with BGGS taking out a multitude of awards from both summits and also having an incredible time making new connections and exploring international affairs and diplomacy.
