STARS The Student-Teacher Astronomy Research Symposium (STARS) is a research-based extension activity for senior students who are interested in astronomy. This year, with assistance from our coordinators, Ms Bernard and Mr Lumsden, we have taken part in two astronomical projects. In Semester 1, we investigated exoplanet transits as part of NASA’s Exoplanet Watch—analysing images taken using the Dorothy Hill Observatory, we uploaded our results to the AAVSO International Database. In Semester 2, we began a new research project focusing on Double Stars—two stars that appear next to each other visually when viewed from Earth. During each STARS session, we extended our knowledge of astrophysics from the junior science curriculum and developed our teamwork skills while contributing to the greater scientific community. TEXTILE INNOVATIONS CLUB

The Textile Innovations Club is a co-curricular club that focuses on student learning and teaching various ways to employ the use of sustainable textile practices such as sewing, crocheting, and knitting. The aim is for students to explore and teach others new techniques, as well as workshop with various staff members about skills surrounding the world of sustainable textiles. This year was our most successful year in terms of attendance and project development, with several students completing large works such as formal dresses and costumes. Together with Mrs Thomas, we have grown since our humble beginnings in 2020, with many students and teachers working as a community to both teach others their own unique skills and learn themselves. The guidance of Mrs Thomas, Mrs Dawson and Ms Hine have been invaluable in our exploration of the large and exciting world of textiles.
