CURRICULUM

YEAR 10 MATHEMATICS Y ear 10 Mathematics has proved to be challenging and fulfilling. With the addition of longer exams and the introduction of the renowned graphics calculator, each girl has been motivated to push herself and achieve far beyond her expectations. The course has exposed us to a range of new topics including parabolas, surds, exponentials and trigonometry. We also continued to build on our knowledge of linear relationships, algebraic

functions and statistics. Sophie McLeod (10M)

YEAR 11 MATHEMATICAL METHODS T his year has been a rewarding and jam-packed year in Mathematical Methods. We have explored a wide range of new topics including sequences, binomial expansion and derivatives. We were also introduced to calculus, which we look forward to exploring further in Year 12. Although the work has been challenging, expanding upon our problem-solving skills has been a worthwhile experience. Hannah Pearson (11B) and Claire Saggers (11O) YEAR 11 GENERAL MATHEMATICS G eneral Mathematics has a strong focus on important, real-life maths skills such as budgeting, percentages, wages, graphs and data analysis. It is this real-life aspect that I enjoy the most as it makes me excited to learn and motivates me to work hard. These skills will be incredibly useful when entering the workforce. Charlotte Zeljko (11W) YEAR 11 SPECIALIST MATHEMATICS W e feel privileged to be the first cohort to undertake Specialist Mathematics in Year 11. While we have built upon our previous mathematical learning and current studies in Mathematical Methods, this subject opened our minds to new complex ideas. Due to our efforts in class we learned the truth behind the statement: 0 sin(labore)⇔A + . We applied this abstract mathematics on practical applications in our problem solving and modelling task. In this task we formulated trigonometric functions in Microsoft Excel to predict the height of ocean tides. During our investigation of combinatorics, which is about counting all possible combinations of outcomes, we learned how to calculate the chance of events occurring,

and thus will never gamble on the lottery. Year 11 Specialist Mathematics students
