YEAR 7 MATHEMATICS I n Year 7, we explored the formula of a parallelogram’s area and solved seemingly impossible questions. Throughout the year we extended our thinking into areas not studied in primary school and expanded on concepts such as geometry and algebraic equations. A highlight of the year was the annual Interhouse Year 7 Mathematics competition in which we represented our House by using our knowledge of the world and maths strategies for a chance to win the prized trophy. We look forward to Year 8 Mathematics and continuing to learn how mathematics explains the world in which we live. Tiffany Chen (7W), Isabella Smith (7W) and Sargun Virk (7W) YEAR 8 MATHEMATICS Y ear 8 Mathematics has been thoroughly enjoyable and challenging. We focused on a variety of units such as geometry, algebra, special quadrilaterals and statistics. These topics allowed us to expand our problem solving skills and improve our critical and analytical thinking. We participated in multiple group activities, which further enhanced our ability to work together as young mathematicians and provided us insight into other students’ interpretation of a problem. From this method we discovered different strategies that could be used to solve problems. Year 8 Mathematics has provided us with the opportunity to explore new ways of thinking. We are eager to explore Year 9 Mathematics and what it has to offer. Janet Su (8E) and Mathilde Wernham (8G) YEAR 9 MATHEMATICS Y ear 9 Mathematics at Girls Grammar has been a great experience for us this year. From improving our algebra skills, to starting trigonometry, we not only understand more about the subject in general, but also seek out mathematical problems with a much more open mind. While challenging, Year 9 Mathematics has overall been a very rewarding and enjoyable experience. Caitlin Brough (9W) and Amara van Huffel (9W)
