YEAR 7 VISUAL ART T his year in Visual Art we completed three pieces—a seed-pod drawing, shell drawing and nature mandala. The medium used for the seed pod was quill and ink, and overall the piece taught us to observe and use the natural pattern and surface texture of our chosen pod. For our second piece, we observed a shell and worked with chalk pastels. By noticing surface contours and lines we were able to create a piece with colour and tone. Our final work was a three-dimensional sculpture of a nature mandala. Combining different forms of colour and pattern, we were able to construct our masterpiece using water colour and card. In Term 4 we participated in a collaborative making task where we worked with only recycled materials and single use plastics to create plastic chandeliers. We have thoroughly enjoyed Year 7 Visual Art and learning new media and techniques. Scarlett Bennett (7L) and Freya Lennon (7L)

YEAR 8 VISUAL ART T his year, in Year 8 Visual Art we learned to create light and shadows to make an image more realistic. For our acrylic paintings, the theme was ‘Precious’. To make our objects stand out we casted shadows and light around our object to create contrast. This made our objects come to life, which everyone was striving to achieve. For our stop-motion works, we used a different art process. Girls cut out difficult shapes, worked with small pieces and moved our people around in complicated positions. Each step was time consuming and required immense concentration. We had to persist and adapt to this new medium, which was both interesting and fun. Esther McDade (8H)
