Rock Climbing

T his year has been one of the most successful seasons in the sport’s 25 years at the School. In Term 1, 63 Year 7 students signed up to participate in Rock Climbing, joining the more experienced climbers in the older Year levels. New climbers were eager to learn with many girls conquering ‘Catt’s Walk’, the highest (12 metres) and most difficult climb on the wall, in Term 1.

We thank Rock Climbing Coach, Mr Barry Greatorex, and instructors, Annalise Varghese (2009) and Allison Becky (2018), for their help in refining our rock climbing skills. Ruby Hindman (8G)

Rowing

T he 2019 Rowing season saw incredible commitment and improvement from our rowers. From pre-season training to our Maroochydore training camp and regatta days, all 126 girls worked tirelessly to improve their skills and fitness. Our Year 8 girls went from having never held an oar to gliding down the course at Wyaralong Dam, while other crews raced confidently, determined to defend their titles or improve on their places from last season. The 2019 season produced some of the best results in Girls Grammar’s history, with more than double the number of podium finishes at Head of the River than in previous years.

Committing to a season of rowing is no small feat, each session requires enormous grit, unwavering focus and the willingness to push beyond your comfort zone. As Captains, we are incredibly honored to have led the girls this season and have enjoyed our time in the Girls Grammar Rowing program. We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to row, which we owe to the tireless efforts of our Rowing Coordinator, Mrs Callie, and all those involved in the Girls Grammar Rowing program.
