Football
F ootball in 2019 saw dedication, teamwork and enthusiasm come together in an incredibly successful season. As one of the fastest growing women’s sports in the world, BGGS is invested in helping girls develop their football skills and the love of the game. With a record breaking 118 girls trialling this year, the season was off to a great start. Throughout Term 1 and Term 2, the Football squad trained to strengthen their skills, fitness and team bonds. Girls’ hard work paid off with the teams earning excellent results. Special mention to the Junior As who finished second overall, and to the Junior Development squad who finished the season undefeated.
A standout among the many highlights of the season was our partnership with the Women’s Roar Football Club, which provided invaluable game analysis and skills development sessions. Of course, none of this would have been possible without the hard work of Football Coordinator, Mrs Finch, and our coaches who without fail, were committed to making the 2019 Girls Grammar Football season a huge success. Hockey
T he 2019 Hockey season was filled with team spirit, good sportsmanship and outstanding achievements. This year we entered five teams into the QGSSSA competition. This unified cohort of girls was a great representation of the rich sporting culture at Brisbane Girls Grammar School. Each Wednesday afternoon, teams filled the Rangakarra ovals as everyone trained with intent and purpose to prepare themselves for the Saturday fixtures. At these games the atmosphere was incredible, with teammates cheering on the sidelines next to eager parents. This consistent strength and determination throughout the season certainly paid off. Three out of five BGGS teams placed in the top three of their division and the Senior A (Blue) won the premiership undefeated for the second year in a row.
Of course, none of this would have been possible without the endless support from our parents, coaches and our amazing Hockey Coordinator, Mr McGarry. His support and that of the coaching team was vital to our success. They did an amazing job at ensuring a fun and exciting season, while improving our skills. It was an honour to lead the 2019 Hockey team and witness their outstanding achievements. The effort and determination we saw in each and every girl makes us confident that Girls Grammar Hockey is well placed for years to come. Elise Champion (12E) and Grace McAuley (12R) CAPTAINS
