Cross Country
SPORT
T his year, our motto for Cross Country was ‘Run as a team in 2019’. It was evident through the hard work and determination of every Cross Country runner that this objective was achieved.
This Cross Country season could not have been possible without the tireless efforts of our amazing Cross Country Coordinator, Mrs McCarthy, and Head Coach, Mr Franklin. We also thank the entire coaching team for their contributions throughout the season. Special mention to students and parents who travelled to Yatala to support the team. The cheering and enthusiasm of the Girls Grammar community encouraged every runner to perform her best. Eliza Baulch (12L) and Isabella Murdoch (12E) CAPTAINS
On Saturday 11 May, the Brisbane Girls Grammar School Cross Country team competed in the QGSSSA competition at Rivermount College. Each age group raced with confidence, determination and courage. This resulted in Girls Grammar placing third overall, only one point behind St Peters Lutheran College. A highlight of the day was the incredible performances of our 12-Years age group, who took home the pennant for first place.
Fencing
G irls Grammar Fencing was on point this year. More than ever, the Fencing team came together as a family, as past Grammar girls assisted with coaching and new fencers joined the team. Eighteen teams were entered into the Brisbane School Fencer Competition. During these competitions, girls were able to make friends from across Year levels and schools. Each girl showed support and passionately cheered for her fellow teammates. After five years of fencing, we have built a great appreciation for the connections, experiences and benefits of being involved in a tight- knit sport. As Fencing Captains, we have developed deep friendships with fellow fencers and are confident that every girl felt supported by Grammar sisters. This year, we could not be more grateful and honoured to have been Fencing Captains. We hope girls continue to enjoy fencing and lunge towards their goals. Many thanks to the coaches who helped our team fulfil its potential and the girls who made this year’s fencing season so amazing. Continue to ignite the piste girls!
