SENIOR DRAMA PRODUCTION

T his year, the Senior Drama Company was honoured to work with the talented director, Noa Rotem, on Medea . It is one of the greatest Greek tragedies—a powerful story of betrayal and revenge, both tender and terrifying. Medea was a wife and mother. However, when her husband, Jason, abandoned her to start a new life, Medea’s fury quickly developed. Threatened by banishment and outcast by most, she felt trapped. She begged the King of Corinth for one day’s grace before being banished. Driven by hurt that turned to rage, Jason suffered Medea’s wrath. She reminded him that there are many layers to a woman. Her convictions blinded her from her own moral sense as she concocted a terrible plan, enacting an appalling revenge and destroying everything she held dear.

Set in the mysterious depths of Medea’s chambers, where her dark thoughts turned to desperate action, the production created a painful, layered vision of passion and betrayal. Being involved in this year’s Senior Drama Production was an experience like no other. The production itself was incredible—the energy from the audience and performers was truly electric. It has been a privilege to be Drama Captains this year. As we adore every aspect of Drama we could not have asked for a better leadership position. We have both been involved in Co-curricular and Curriculum Drama throughout our Girls Grammar journey and have enjoyed the many rich opportunities the program offers in and outside of the classroom.
