YEAR 11 BIOLOGY In 2018, Year 11 Biology students were involved in many fields of Biological Science. We developed our microphotography skills by investigating the effects of coloured light and pH on single-celled Euglena and discovered the importance of our local ecosystems during excursions to Stradbroke Island and the Sunshine Coast; not to mention all the fascinating species adaptations and relationships we saw at SeaLife. In Term 4, we performed dissections to see how organs maintain homeostasis. We look forward to senior Biology next year.

YEAR 11 CHEMISTRY This year, Chemistry has been an exciting mixture of new experiences, learning about chemical reactions and stoichiometry. We also delved into hypothetical and real world situations armed with our lab coat and goggles and are now positive life would not be the same without hydrogen bonds. There were various challenges and elements of surprise, such as the Australian Chemistry Olympiad, but overall we have thoroughly enjoyed this year. Ashley Kuo (11W) and Chloe McCormack (11M)

YEAR 11 PHYSICS

Year 11 Physics explains many of the natural phenomena we unconsciously witness and use in everyday life making it thoroughly rewarding and exciting. Through this course, we built on the fundamental topics of forces and energy, while applying them to more complex scenarios such as projectile motion, cars and waves. As well as examining theoretical principles, we have performed many practical experiments, some using advanced technology such as the Photogate software, while others required no more than a slinky. These experiments applied the theory we had learned, enabling us to further contextualise and understand these phenomena. Claire Fidler (11R) and Nina Hadzivukovic (11H)
