THE TRUTH ABOUT SCIENCE (YEAR 7 AND 8 SCIENCE)

When you look at an object, how deep do you really look? Do you notice the colours on the surface, or, do you begin to wonder about what truly makes up the object? Often, I look at things with a curious glaze over my eyes. Each movement, each sound, each living thing I see leaves me with an unimaginable number of questions. Yet, Science is always sitting in the back of my mind answering all of them. Science seems to be the one thing that is pure logic. Raw knowledge processed to explain the chaos that goes on around us, and whether or not we choose to accept it, Science will always be right. Each day, I listen to my teacher break down a concept. I listen as she explains the work that goes on beneath the colours on the surface. Take our bodies for instance, it may sound simple but our hearts pump blood and therefore oxygen around our bodies for our entire lives. Our whole life, our bodies are held down to the Earth by gravity. The fact that we are capable of understanding this is astonishing in itself, but the power that we have to utilise it, is what we must acknowledge. The power we gain by merely understanding science can change our way of living; in fact, there is no doubt that it already has and the underlying reason for this, is that the world makes sense with science. Rachel Mackamalil (8B) YEAR 7 SCIENCE In Year 7 Science, we covered many interesting and fascinating topics in Chemistry, Biology and Physics. In Chemistry, we explored many different separating techniques and studied the changes of state in particles of solids, liquids and gases. In Biology, we observed plants and made quantitative and qualitative observations, and in Physics, we learned about motion and the different types of forces. We have really enjoyed all aspects of Science this year. Ashleigh Docherty (7G)

YEAR 8 SCIENCE Year 8 Science focused on Chemistry, Biology and Physics. In Chemistry, we explored how different atoms are re-arranged chemically in reactions, while Biology illustrated how organ systems function together in the human body. In Physics, we investigated atoms and the nuclear energy generated in reactions and as part of Astronomy we used Dorothy Hill Observatory to take extraordinary pictures of outer space.
