YEAR 9 GEOGRAPHY In order to understand my life thus far, you need a firm grasp of geography, and an atlas or two nearby. I have lived in four different countries and Girls Grammar is my eighth school. For the first time in years I was able to study Geography and jumped at the chance. I still remember being excited as my teacher laid out the curriculum at the beginning of the year. In Term 1, we studied biomes, what they are, and how and why they form. Class discussions were in-depth and at times would lead us to completely new areas of natural geography. Term 2 focused on a research task where I created an informational campaign website about the Atlantic Bluefin tuna and in Term 3, we explored human based geography, creating a multi-model presentation about a country facing food insecurity. Rosalita Rosenberg (9G) YEAR 10 GEOGRAPHY In Year 10 Geography we explored a range of topics including geographies of human wellbeing throughout the world’s population, food and culture of different nations, environmental change and management of coastal environments. Each topic offered insightful knowledge on relevant and relatable ideas and issues in our current world. A highlight of Geography was the learning environment, which offered each student an opportunity to share their perspectives in classroom discussions and further explore topics in assessment outside the classroom. This included collecting primary data from our excursion to the Gold Coast where we investigated ever-changing geographic features of the coast. Fiona Brown (10G)
