HEALTH PROMOTING SCHOOLS

The clubs Open Day 2018 stall was a great success in raising awareness of the importance of making healthier choices and providing the School community with ideas on how to start their mornings nutritionally and deliciously. Thank you to Mrs Miles, Mrs Minuzzo and Mrs Lockyer for your deduction to the HPS program. We hope that in our absence, HPS will continue to raise awareness for cervical cancer and help support ACCF. Health Promoting Schools (HPS) is a service group open to all Grammar girls interested in promoting a healthy lifestyle while raising funds for the Australian Cervical Cancer Foundation (ACFF). The ACCF is a non-for-profit organisation dedicated to eliminating cervical cancer in Australia and developing countries. This year, the HPS group focused on implementing healthier choices into girls’ everyday routines. This included promoting healthy breakfast and dinner options at Open Day 2018. While most people are aware of the benefits of consuming a nutritious breakfast, many choose unhealthy alternatives or neglect the meal altogether.

DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS SERVICE GROUP

Doctors without Borders is a discussion-based service group, supporting the Me´decins Sans Frontie`res (MSF). The group’s purpose is to raise awareness about current epidemics, diseases, chronic illnesses or other humanitarian issues being addressed by MSF. This group is unique in that discussion focuses not only on the humanitarian side of current epidemics and crises, but also on the medical and scientific aspects. This year, we have discussed maternal care and safe childbirth for Afghani women, current medical and non-medical concerns of the Rohingya refugees, the role reversal of doctors and patients in the Syrian War, and vital aspects of emergency humanitarian aid worldwide. Having only been established in 2017, our goal for 2018 was to host more fundraising activities in support of MSF. We are delighted and extremely gratified to have received so much support and interest shown towards our group. We hope to raise the profile of Doctors without Borders within the School community so that we can further develop our identity as a Girls Grammar service group.
