2018 School Magazine

SOFTBALL This year, the Senior Softball season was a smashing success, with home runs and strikes taking place on each of the Brisbane Girls Grammar School competition pitches. Throughout Term 1 competitions, teams showed persistence, expertise and determination, displaying their Girls Grammar spirit in all aspects of the game.

SWIMMING The 2018 Swimming season commenced with 50 girls travelling to the Gold Coast for swimming camp, a fun and challenging three days of swimming, pilates, strength and conditioning and team bonding activities. As captains, this was a great way to communicate with the team and discuss goals for the season ahead. For girls on the team, this was our first camp off campus and it proved to be a highly successful weekend for all attendees. Squad members posted promising times throughout the series of Friday night meets, showcasing their hard work at camp and training. Wednesday morning training sessions encapsulated Girls Grammar’s team spirit filled with fun activities and music, followed by a team breakfast. The Interhouse Swimming Carnival saw the recruitment of many new faces to the team and strong performances were witnessed from the Grammar girls who competed at the Commonwealth Games Trials and the 2018 Georgina Hope Foundation Australian Age Championships. QGSSSA Swimming was an incredible display of the girls’ hard work and training. With a sea of royal blue spectators in the stands, girls broke both personal best times and QGSSSA records. The team came away with a commendable third place overall, the School’s most successful result since 2008. Thank you to Swimming Co-ordinator, Ms Martel and Head Coach, Ms Brownsdon, and to all coaches who helped create a rewarding and memorable Swimming season. We look forward to seeing what 2019 brings for Girls Grammar Swimming. Eliza King (12E) and Emma Stacey (12L) CAPTAINS

Congratulations to all players on a strong season filled with intense training and challenging matches that resulted in commendable achievements. Four senior teams competed in this year’s fixtures and Brisbane Girls Grammar School came away with one premiership from the Senior B Team. The School’s Open team placed third overall, while the Senior A Team placed fifth and Senior B team placed fourth. This season would not have been successful without the guidance of our coaches, who helped us play to the best of our ability and strive for remarkable results. Thank you to our score keepers, Ms Cooke and Ms Bernard, who sat on the sidelines with helpful hints and motivated us. To Mrs Kingan, thank you for your hard work and support and congratulations to all softballers for an amazing 2018 Softball Senior Season. Bryleigh Parsons-Pope (10B)
