RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS

ROWING The 2018 Rowing season saw significant improvements in technique, fitness and strength in the Girls Grammar Rowing Program. Year 8 crews began the season having never sat on an ergometer or held an oar, and now just a couple of months later, are flying down the course at Wyaralong Dam showing their competition the grit, determination and power required to be a Girls Grammar rower.

The 2018 season and 40th year of QGSSSA Rhythmic Gymnastics was an outstanding success. The season commenced with trials in Term 2, which resulted in 75 girls forming 20 teams. All teams were extremely dedicated, training for 2.5 hours each week, with additional training in the lead up to the QGSSSA competition. After more than three months of early mornings, the season culminated with the QGSSSA competition on Friday 10 August at Moreton Bay College. The atmosphere was filled with excitement, anticipation and quite a bit of glitter hairspray. The level of competition was extremely high and Girls Grammar gymnasts performed exceptionally well. Congratulations to the Year 7 Team 2 on winning the pennant in Division Two, the Division One Year 8 team who placed fifth and the Year 8 Division Two team who won first place.

Year 9 and 10 girls worked tirelessly this year, striving for perfect technique and flawless timing and the School’s senior rowers put in the hours on the water, in the gym and on the ergometer, aiming to defend their titles or improve on last year’s results. As captains, we are immensely proud of this year’s outstanding results. Thank you to everyone who supported the Girls Grammar Rowing Program, we are incredibly proud to have led such a strong and unified shed. Makenzie Durbridge (12H) and Aimee Boulton (12E) CAPTAINS

In B Grade, Girls Grammar finished third overall and in A Grade we finished second to Brisbane State High School by only 0.8 of a point. In the Open Division, our Open Pair teams achieved second place and our Open Group comprising Ella Leydon (12H), Harper McIlroy (12W), Maddison Facey (12G), Imogen Doerfer (12G) and Kayla Wong (12W) took home a well-deserved and exciting win, as Girls Grammar have not placed first in this event since 2009. Congratulations to all girls on this fantastic achievement. Girls Grammar’s success this year is a result of the efforts and commitment of our dedicated gymnasts. It has been a pleasure captaining the Rhythmic Gymnastics team and an honour we will not forget. Zoe Clayden-Zabik (12W) and Phoebe Griffin (11W) CAPTAINS
