2018 School Magazine

HOCKEY Hockey at Brisbane Girls Grammar School is filled with team spirit, good sportsmanship and outstanding achievements. This year, the new veranda at the Rangakarra Recreational and Environmental Education Centre was put to good use as parents, families and friends were able to view the hockey games in comfort as they supported. Girls Grammar entered six teams in the QGSSSA competition which represents the rich culture of Hockey at the School. A unified cohort was evident at training on Wednesday afternoons as girls practiced with intent and purpose to prepare for their games. The atmosphere was outstanding at weekend games with teammates encouraging each other and eager parents on the sideline. Girls Grammar showed consistent strength and determination throughout the season. Four of the six teams finished in the top three of their divisions and the Senior A (Blue) team finished as undefeated premiers. Our season would not have been so successful without the support and help from the coaches, teachers and our amazing coordinator, Mr McGarry. As the new coordinator, he put in a great effort to make the season run smoothly with early morning set ups, coaching, umpiring and general organisation of all teams. As Hockey Captains, it was an honour to lead the 2018 Hockey team and witness their outstanding achievements. The effort from the wonderful and passionate players makes us confident that success and team spirit will continue for many years to come. Charlotte Mitchell (12R) and Zoe Phillips (12R) CAPTAINS

NETBALL The 2018 Netball season marked the 105th year of Netball at Girls Grammar. To celebrate, the Open and 7A team played their final QGSSSA game against St Peters Lutheran College at Coomera Indoor Sports Centre.

Thanks to the commitment, sportsmanship, and level of skill from each player, Girls Grammar netball had a successful season. This year, the School won four premierships. The positive attitude and enthusiasm displayed at Saturday games and Tuesday afternoon trainings played a large part in the squads’ success. Overall, 16 of the 32 Girls Grammar teams finished in the top three of their division. Thank you to Ms Rees, Netball Coordinator, and Ms Kempe, Team Manager for their ongoing support, hard work and guidance. As captains, it has been a pleasure to lead the 2018 Girls Grammar Netball squad and witness each player develop their skills throughout the season. Imogen Ross (12O) and Lily Whitaker (12G) CAPTAINS
