CROSS COUNTRY Throughout Term 1 and 2, the Cross Country squad combatted each early morning training session and lead-up meet with determination, resulting in more victories than we could have imagined. On Saturday 12 April, Brisbane Girls Grammar School Cross Country team travelled to Rivermount College to compete in the 30th Annual QGSSSA Cross Country Championships, where Girls Grammar placed second overall. Special mention to the 12-Years runners who won their age group pennant. Many outstanding individual results were witnessed on the day. Congratulations to Amelia Hunt (8O) and Lausanne Agnew (10L) for placing second in the 13 Years and 15 Years age groups, respectively.

FENCING For the first half of the year, more than 30 students from the Brisbane Girls Grammar School Fencing Team trained across the three disciplines of foil, epee and sabre. The main competition was the Brisbane School Team Fixtures which were held during Term 3, with Brisbane Girls Grammar School entering 13 teams in the event. All girls fenced with enthusiasm and determination, developing techniques and skills while fencing many close matches against competitors from across Brisbane. The School finished in third place overall, led by exceptional results from the Junior Sabre A and B teams, which finished first and second respectively. A number of girls participated in additional competitions at state, national and international levels. Congratulations to these fencers on pursuing their chosen sport to the highest levels. Thank you to the coaches who helped the girls though training and competition. We look forward to next year and another

exciting season. Mr Peter Creese FENCING COORDINATOR

In 2018, the Cross Country team learned ‘teamwork requires individuals to perform their roles with thoroughness, trusting that their teammates will do likewise’ (Fogarty, 2018). We are confident this is how the girls performed. As captains, we are thankful for the opportunity to lead such an inspiring and dedicated group of girls. We encourage girls to always run with passion and the attitude that nothing can stop you. Sevella Agnew (12L) and Georgia White (12L) CAPTAINS
