ATHLETICS

In addition to this achievement, we would like to commend Grammar athletes for their performance at QG Athletics. Their ability to come together as a team, in spite of the conditions, is testament to their character. It was great to see 27 top three finishes with Lucy Vaughan (7O), Jade Somerville (8G), Isabel Lumley (9M) and Zara Haines (11R) placing first in their events. In addition to this, we would like to congratulate the 13 and 14 Years for placing third in their age groups. On behalf of the Athletics program, we thank the athletics coaches, with special mention to Mrs Dabelstein and Ms Mann. To our coordinator, Mrs Greenland, we are so thankful for your continual support and hard work. Jessica Whiting (12W) and Yvette Hines (12W) CAPTAINS

During the 2018 Athletics season, there were a number of changes, personal bests and goals achieved. This year, girls used the new training facility, Jack Cook Memorial Park which allowed both track and field athletes to train together, creating a greater sense of unity and team spirit. The abundance of spirit that accumulated from weeks of training was evident at Interhouse Athletics, weekly meets and the 100th QGSSSA competition. Personal bests were seen weekly due to the determination and focus at training sessions. This season, great amounts of athleticism were seen with many of the School’s athletes making the Metropolitan North, State and National teams. Commendation must go to Elizabeth Moss (11E) for representing Australia and placing fourth in the High Jump event at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires. This is a fantastic personal achievement for Elizabeth which we are pleased to acknowledge.
