FROM THE SPORTS CAPTAINS

This year also marked the 100th year of QGSSSA Athletics. A special ballgames demonstration from Year 7 students was added to the schedule for the day as a nod to the past. The 2018 Commonwealth Games were held at the Gold Coast, with several Grammar Women competing. Girls did not need to look far to find great sporting role models. Many Grammar girls also volunteered as helpers at the Games. We are proud of the girls who participated in sport this year, for honouring the royal blue. Thank you to Ms Euler, Miss Papas, Mr Fogarty and Ms Duffy for their continuous efforts throughout the year. Without their help and the efforts of the individual sports coordinators, the respective seasons would not have been so successful. Albertine Cooke (12O) and Charlotte Mitchell (12R)

This year, our aim was to encourage girls through participation in sport, inspiring girls to be involved by our motto ‘Grammar Up’. We hoped participants would ‘G-Up’ in their competitions by embracing the Grammar sisterhood and we were not disappointed. With sport being a massive part in both of our lives, we wanted to make our last year as memorable as possible by taking the Grammar spirit to the next level. This year, the 110th year of the Queensland Girls Secondary Schools Sports Association (QGSSSA), was a successful year for Girls Grammar sport. An exceptional number of supporters attended QGSSSA Swimming, the first championship event of the year, and the spirit helped Grammar swimmers secure a fantastic third place. Another highlight was the QG celebration round, where Open and 7A teams from all schools gathered to compete for the final round of winter fixtures.

ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS

We were exceptionally proud of the 60 Grammar girls who performed at the QGSSSA competition, showcasing the routines they had worked hard to perfect. As Year 11 captains, we are fortunate to see the girls grow in next year’s season, and maintain the relationships developed this year. We encourage girls interested in Artistic Gymnastics to trial for

As Artistic Gymnastics Captains, the chance to pursue our passion for the sport and lead such a dedicated group of girls has been nothing short of incredible. From the first day of holiday training, we knew it was going to be a great year for Artistic Gymnastics. From seeing friendships between nervous Year 7 girls blossom, to witnessing the ecstatic disbelief of the Year 12 girls at their fantastic results achieved at QGSSSA, we are grateful to have lead this particular group of girls.

next season and wish you all the best of luck. Erin Christmas (11M) and Samantha Dash (11E)

BADMINTON

27 October and the junior teams competed on Saturday 3 November in the QGSSSA competitions. This year has been a successful season with pennant wins for four of the School’s teams. Badminton is a pressure-driven, fast-paced and unbelievably fun sport in which our girls have gained a deeper understanding of the sport. It has been a pleasure to lead such an enthusiastic, supportive and talented team this year. We have gained incalculably from this experience and are extremely proud of everyone’s efforts. We are especially thankful to our Coordinator, Ms Fukushima for organising and ensuring that everything runs smoothly, as well as our coaches for training and guiding us to achieve the best we can. Christina Chan (12R) and Sammi Ting (12R)

Badminton continues to be a popular sport at Brisbane Girls Grammar School. This year with the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast many players were motivated to improve their skills after watching the amazing speed of athletes. This year the season started with more than 180 girls from all Year levels signing up. Trials were held midway through Term 3 and squad members trained three hours a week, with extra training sessions in the lead up to competitions. Throughout the semester, they learned communication skills, teamwork and sportsmanship while improving their skills and physical wellbeing. This year 122 girls took to the courts to compete over two weekends. The senior and Year 10 teams competed on Saturday
