CATHEDRAL CONCERT

The Cathedral Concert featured several senior ensembles and student soloists including Miranda Chan (12H) and Sara Watson (12R) on viola with Chamber Strings, and Alice Cavdarski (12W), Katherine Zambelli (12W) and Kaitlyn Tam (12G) on trumpet, alto saxophone and flute respectively during Cinema Paradiso with Symphonic Winds. The ethereal voices from our senior choirs added wonderfully to the ambience of the evening in this beautiful space. PROSSIMA PROGRAM

Performing with the other Grammar girls in front of a packed auditorium at QPAC is a moment none of us will forget. The Musical Mentors initiative saw seven Queensland Symphony Orchestra musicians assigned to mentor Girls Grammar ensembles. These musicians attended rehearsals where they shared their story, led tutorials and played with the ensemble. They also joined their ensemble for a performance during the year. This program gave girls the opportunity to benefit from the expertise of these professionals and inspired the School’s young musicians. This year, the announcement of the School’s Education Partnership with Queensland Symphony Orchestra conducted by Ms Alondra de la Parra was a highlight for instrumental players. The program had two facets, the Prossima Program and the Musical Mentors initiative. For the Prossima Program , auditions were held and 20 students were selected to receive individual mentoring from Queensland Symphony Orchestra musicians. Their hard work culminated in a performance of Not the Last Night of the Proms concert with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra at Queensland Performing Art Centre (QPAC) on Thursday 9 August.
