MATHAPATTA

called The Human Pendulum before completing our final session of the Mathapatta program. The ‘Motion of the Ocean’ session was difficult but fascinating, where we enjoyed using our graphics calculators and computers to draw different shapes and sizes of ‘waves’. The Year 9 group was introduced to graphics calculators, exploring a variety of different functions and developed a mathematical model to represent a bungee jump. Thank you to the Maths staff and the Marrapatta staff for making the program so fun and interesting. Gia Cayas (10G)

Mathapatta 2018 was an extraordinary experience that included problem-solving races, trivia, game theory, a high ropes course and challenging lessons on Diophantine Equations and Modulo Arithmetic. After the first round of workshops, we enjoyed the competitiveness of the Great Race. We collected clues by answering challenging maths problems to guide us around the Marrapatta campus. On Sunday night, we tested our knowledge in an intense game of mathematical trivia. On Monday, the Year 10 girls had fun learning about the theory behind different games, making us rethink the way in which we played these games. We also enjoyed doing a high ropes activity
