TRANSLATIONAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE IMMERSION PROGRAM

My group’s research focused on understanding how mammary gland epithelial cells and their cycle can be used to progress breast cancer research. We focused on a few different tissue staining methods including immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, histology and cell culture staining. We also toured the microscopy and histology facilities. The immersion program gave valuable insight into new ways of thinking, and practical applications of scientific research. Nina Hadzivukovic (11H)

This year, I participated in the SPARQ-ed (Students Performing Advanced Research Queensland—Education) Translational Research Institute (TRI) Immersion Program. The course exposed students to relevant scientific research on breast cancer, led by knowledgeable and accomplished researchers from the laboratory. The learning experience was an exciting way to broaden our understanding of science beyond secondary school and to learn about career pathways in medical research.
