JAPANESE Studying Japanese throughout my time at BGGS has been very enjoyable. Extending our Japanese knowledge that we’ve learned from Year 8 to Year 11, we practiced our listening, reading, speaking and writing skills regularly, which I found very helpful for my own revision. One of my favourite things about studying Japanese at BGGS is that we have the opportunity to experience a wide range of activities, such as making Japanese food, celebrating different festivals and excursions to Japanese restaurants. Not only did I create fun, exciting memories with my peers and teacher, I also enjoyed learning more about Japanese culture. I also enjoyed my experience on the Japan Study Tour where we attended classes at our sister school and spent a week in homestay. I’m definitely going to miss studying Japanese at BGGS when I graduate, as studying Japanese here has been a wonderful experience however I do plan to continue my studies at university and in the future would love to live and experience life in Japan.

CHINESE My BGGS Chinese experience has been thoroughly enjoyable and the Year 10 curriculum has been both interesting and stimulating. Each term we are challenged to further develop and hone our previous skills – extending our vocabulary and expanding our knowledge and understanding of culture. We looked at talking about the weather and giving directions, which lead into the travel unit in Term II. In the second half of the year, health and modern media were the topics. The current Chinese syllabus requires us to complete a speaking, reading, listening and writing assessment each semester. This arrangement enables us to apply our newly learnt Chinese skills in both familiar and unfamiliar environments, thus further refining and enhancing our learning experience. In class, we use many different elements to enhance our learning such as fun and exciting online games such as Kahoot and Quizlet. Studying Chinese at Brisbane Girls Grammar School provides many options to put our learning into practice through excursions to Chinese festivals, restaurants and, for some students the study tour to China. Chinese is by far one of my favourite subjects this year and am keen to take it to the next level in senior Chinese next year.
