I enjoyed doing Wider Reading, as it was a fun way to share ideas and opinions with the class in an exciting, safe environment. It was a great way to get to communicate with your class, without having to worry about being assessed.

YEAR 7 What I enjoyed the most in English this year was learning new things to what we learnt at primary school. It has been hard but I realise that even if you don’t get the best mark at least I tried my hardest. The hardest thing was expecting to get As and I have now learnt my lesson and now I focus on what I am learning. I am now very excited to be doing an oral on the movie Mulan in Term IV and I hope that I will improve my mark.

LUCY MCLEOD (7W)

English this year was lots of fun! I especially liked all the different activities and tasks we did. My favourite term in English was Term I where we wrote narratives, as we had freedom in choosing which story to write. Term II Persuasive work helped me in NAPLAN - I learned a lot about persuasive techniques and structuring arguments. Crow Country in Term III was interesting to read, and I learned about sentence structure and being succinct. In short, Year 7 English has challenged me as well as being very enjoyable.

SAHARA ASHBY (7W)

Overall English in Year 7 has been enjoyable and engaging. I enjoyed the Narrative Transformation unit the most as it allowed me to use my imagination and to make the writing truly my own.

EVANGELINE PRITCHARD (7W)

ALYSSA NUNNINK (7W)

English has been so great this year and I have developed so much. The teacher is great and I loved doing wider reading every term and presenting in front of the class; it really encouraged me to read more books. My favourite thing our class did was the novel; it was interesting to know about racism and learn new techniques for writing paragraphs.

THEA DAVIES (7W)

YEAR 8 I really enjoyed the group tasks where I could work with others as this also created a closer bond with people in my English class. I appreciated my teacher giving me valid feedback on drafts. I learned many new words and sentence structures. It has been a very interesting and exciting experience in English class this year.

This year in English, I have enjoyed a variety of things which have helped me learn more about my learning styles and myself as a person. In Term I we studied what factors shaped our identity and this helped me to discover more things about my family and friends. In many ways, this year’s English has helped me in a lot of other subjects too as my orals have increased my confidence and helped me with public speaking and writing essays has helped me with writing essays, scripts and speeches in other subjects.

LISA CHANG (8E)

In English this year, I found that I really enjoyed reading A Midsummer Night’s Dream . I liked the fact that we watched the movie first before reading the play because I understood the story much better and enjoyed it a lot. I learned a lot about how Shakespeare wrote and how theatre worked in his era.

CHLOE DICKSON (8W)

CAMILLA BASTOW (8H)

What I found interesting about English this year is the detail and structure that the teacher taught me so I can write more effectively. Peer assessment also helped immensely with my writing especially punctuation and it also developed my editing skills.

This year, I found that I truly enjoy English more than I did last year. Last year I was in a fixed mindset and I told myself that I was terrible at the subject and that I didn’t like it, which really impacted on my grades negatively. Now, I have learnt to appreciate Australian poets and Shakespeare, which influenced me to write some poetry of my own. As I have come to cherish the subject, my grades have significantly improved.
